Eighteen Spaniards aim to end foreign dominance at the Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open

The eighteen Spanish golfers competing in the Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open, a LET Access Series tournament taking place from 14 to 16 October at Gambito Golf Club Calatayud, are determined to end the strong foreign dominance of this important competition as it reaches its fifth edition.

The winners of the four tournaments held to date came from England in the first three editions — Amy Taylor was the best in 2022, Hanna Screen finished first in 2023 and Ellie Gower won in 2024 — while Sweden’s Andrea Lignell lifted the winner’s trophy in 2025.

Despite the undeniable quality of the Spanish players, the goal is always a challenging one. Calatayud brings together an outstanding field, all looking to add points to their ranking on this circuit, the pathway to the Ladies European Tour, with just four tournaments remaining in the season.

That is why Gambito Golf Club Calatayud is hosting the best professional players on this international circuit, aiming not only to win but also to secure one of the top seven ranking positions that provide direct entry to the higher-level tour, the LET, in 2027.

Particular mention should be made of the presence of twelve winners from the fifteen competitions played so far this season, including France’s Lauren Holmey and Switzerland’s Natalie Armbruester, who arrive in Calatayud as the top two players in the 2026 LETAS ranking.

Following them are María Villanueva, Elena Melich, Clara Moyano and María Herráez, the highest-ranked Spanish players in the LETAS standings thanks to their results throughout the year.

María Parra, twice runner-up in the Spanish Professional Championship and a winner on the Symetra Tour — the development circuit in the United States — also arrives in good form, as does Ana Pina, whose strong results on the National Women’s Professional Circuit this season include a win in Álava and second place in La Coruña.

Also of interest is the participation of players with international experience, such as Marina Escobar and Constanza Guerrero, both of whom have played in several LET tournaments.

Two representatives from Aragon also deserve a mention: Elisa Orduna, competing as a professional, and Iona García, as an amateur. Their presence provides an opportunity to showcase local talent in this international competition.

Three days of professional golf and an experience for everyone

The tournament, to be played from 14 to 16 October following a Pro-Am on 13 October, brings together more than a hundred players from around twenty countries.

Alongside the Pro-Am, which will allow amateur golfers to spend a day playing with the professionals, the event will include numerous additional activities at the Calatayud club.

A fitting finale takes place on Saturday 17 October with the American Express LETAS Experience. Amateur golfers will be able to enjoy the same course and care as the professional players during the competition, with an emphasis on socialising and gastronomy through open activities that establish the occasion as a social event extending beyond sport.

Essential support for the tournament

This event has the backing and collaboration of Calatayud City Council and the Government of Aragon’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, which are among the tournament’s main official sponsors. These joint efforts aim to promote sports tourism in the region and showcase the cultural, historical and natural riches of the city and its surroundings.

The tournament also benefits from the valuable support of sponsoring companies that make the event possible, including Iberdrola, DF Grupo, Reale Seguros, JAB, Dos Maderas, Malpastor, Veolia, American Express, Mahou, Cubical, Schweppes, Volvo, Pepsi, Solán de Cabras and Suministros Espiago, as well as the Let Access Series, the Aragonese Golf Federation and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
