. The top seven players in the LETAS rankings after the Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open will play on the Ladies European Tour in 2026.

The Iberdrola Calayatud Ladies Open is heading towards a truly nail-biting finish, given the huge number of players vying for the lead with 18 holes to go, which is currently held by France’s Lucie Malchirand.

The 22-year-old French golfer has improved her personal best round score – previously set at 67 strokes – by handing in an impressive card of 64 strokes, consisting solely of 10 pars and, even more importantly, 8 birdies without a single mistake throughout her extraordinary round.

Lucie Malchirand, who has already won a professional tournament while still an amateur, the 2021 Ladies Italian Open on the Ladies European Tour, has climbed 16 places in the overall standings, positioning herself as a serious contender for the final victory in a fierce battle with at least eight other players, separated by only five strokes.

Among them is Germany’s Hanna Tauber, the tournament’s early leader, who was knocked off her privileged position by Lucie Malchirand’s outstanding performance. The German, just one stroke behind the French golfer, finished the second round with 68 strokes, proving that her 67 on the first day was no fluke.

From there, a large number of players fight to achieve the best possible ranking in a tournament with a final round full of unknowns to be resolved. Among this group of contenders is Elena Melich, a promising young Spanish golfer.

The 22-year-old from Guadalajara, with just four LETAS tournaments in which she made the cut as previous experience, is 6 under par with rounds of 71 and 67. The solidity of her game is being rewarded with a promising sixth place, which distinguishes her as the best Spanish golfer in the tournament, followed by María Parra, in 19th place with 2 under par.

Apart from these two players, Spaniards Beatriz Barrios, María Villanueva, Clara Moyano and María Herráez also made the cut of 2 over par to compete in the final round.

Lucie Malchirand’s brilliant amateur past

Leading the Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open with one day to go, young Lucie Malchirand has a brilliant amateur career under her belt, including a spectacular victory in a LET professional tournament, the Ladies Italian Open.

In addition, Lucie Malchirand played for the French national team on numerous occasions, winning the Belgian International Under-18 Championship in 2018, the French International Championship in 2019 and the Portuguese International Championship in 2021, reaching a position among the top 10 in the World Amateur Ranking. She also represented the European team in the PING Junior Solheim Cup in 2019.

An experience for all audiences

As a finishing touch to the tournament, it is worth highlighting the Gambito Experience, which will once again focus on socialising and gastronomy, with activities open to members, visitors and guests, consolidating the event as a social occasion beyond the sporting arena.

Essential support for the development of the tournament

The Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open has established itself as a key event on the LET Access Series calendar, not only because of the high standard of its organisation, but also because of the quality of the course and the hospitality of the city of Calatayud.

The tournament is sponsored mainly by Iberdrola, with the collaboration of the Government of Aragon, Calatayud City Council, the Aragon Golf Federation, Gambito Golf Club Calatayud and Galera Group, the event promoter. These joint efforts seek to promote sports tourism in the region and raise awareness of the cultural, historical and natural wealth of the city and its surroundings.

The tournament also enjoys the valuable support of sponsoring companies that make this event possible, including DF Grupo, Reale Seguros, Galpe, JAB, Bonduelle, Viñas del Vero, Dos Maderas, Mahou, Cubical, Schweppes, Volvo, Pepsi, Solán de Cabras and Suministros Espiago, as well as the Let Access Series and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
