Calatayud hosts the spectacular Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open, the epicentre of European women’s golf

The competition will be held at Gambito Golf Club Catalayud from 16 to 18 October.

The Gambito Golf Club Calatayud course will once again host the Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open, a tournament that forms part of the LET Access Series, the prelude to the Ladies European Tour, which will bring together some of the best professional players on the international circuit from 16 to 18 October.

The event was presented in Zaragoza at a press conference attended by the Director General of Tourism, Jorge Moncada; the Director General of Sports, Cristina García; the Mayor of Calatayud, José Manuel Aranda; the President of the Aragonese Golf Federation, José María Dehesa; and the CEO of Galera Group, Jorge Piera.

An international showcase for golf and tourism in Aragon

During the official presentation of the tournament, Jorge Moncada, Director of Tourism for Aragon, emphasised that ‘we must support this type of event not only because of the importance of the tournament itself, but also to promote the region, the district and the community of Calatayud, which important events like this bring to life and raise the profile of the area’.

For her part, Cristina García, Director General of Sports for the Government of Aragon, stressed that “sport must be understood as a useful tool in terms of its impact on the region. These tournaments have a very positive impact because they bring people from 28 different countries, more than a hundred players who will ultimately stay overnight in Calatayud, compete there and get to know the area. And this is also very beneficial publicity for the region, for the municipality, for the district and for Aragon in general.”

Local commitment and promotion of golf in Calatayud

The mayor of Calatayud, José Manuel Aranda, highlighted the importance of the work carried out by Jorge Piera and the team at Gambito Golf Club Calatayud, noting that ‘they are making a significant commitment to promoting and teaching a healthy sport such as golf, especially through schools, an initiative that will be resumed in the coming months.’

For his part, José María Dehesa, President of the Aragon Golf Federation, emphasised that ‘one of the great strengths of golf in Aragon is having committed people like Jorge Piera, who made a firm commitment to promoting this sport from Calatayud and has turned the club into a national benchmark’.

Three days of professional golf and an experience for all audiences

The tournament, which will be held between 16 and 18 October, with a ProAm taking place on 15 October, will bring together more than a hundred players from around twenty countries.

In addition to the aforementioned Pro-Am, which will allow amateur players to share the day with professional players, the event will include numerous parallel activities at the Bilbilitano club.

As a grand finale, we would like to highlight the Gambito Experience, which will once again focus on socialising and gastronomy, with activities open to members, visitors and guests, consolidating the event as a social occasion beyond the sporting arena.

A well-established event on the European calendar

The Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open has established itself as a key event on the LET Access Series calendar, not only because of the high standard of its organisation, but also because of the quality of the course and the hospitality of the city of Calatayud.

The tournament is sponsored mainly by Iberdrola, with the collaboration of the Government of Aragon, Calatayud City Council, the Aragon Golf Federation, Gambito Golf Club Calatayud and Galera Group, the event promoter. These joint efforts seek to promote sports tourism in the region and raise awareness of the cultural, historical and natural wealth of the city and its surroundings.

The tournament also enjoys the valuable support of sponsoring companies that make this event possible, including DF Grupo, Reale Seguros, Galpe, JAB, Bonduelle, Viñas del Vero, Dos Maderas, Mahou, Cubical, Schweppes, Volvo, Pepsi, Solán de Cabras and Suministros Espiago, as well as the Let Access Series and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
